From April to May 2024, Skillsoft Global Knowledge, a partner in the ESSA project, piloted an innovative learning programme focused on Cloud Development. This programme was designed for employees of two business units within the Shared Service Center ICT (SSC-ICT), which provides ICT services for the Dutch government. A total of 26 employees participated in this learning programme pilot.
About the Cloud Development Programme
Participants in the programme had the opportunity to gain comprehensive knowledge of cloud technologies, architecture, and best practices. The goal was to better prepare them for the challenges of modern IT and enable them to contribute to innovative solutions.
The programme was divided into two parts over two weeks.
- Week 1: Developer Fundamentals
- This week focused on foundational skills through a combination of self-study using Percipio, Skillsoft’s learning platform. Key topics included:
- Programming Foundations
- Web Basics
- Database & SQL
- Software Architecture
- Design, Development, and Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)

- Week 2: Cloud Development
- In the second part, participants applied the developer skills learned in the first week to a cloud environment. Training was delivered in a classroom setting, either on-site or virtually. Key topics covered included:

- Load Balancing
- Scaling
- Infrastructure Protection

Objectives of the Learning Programme Pilot
The primary objective of offering this programme to SSC-ICT was to help employees expand their expertise in Cloud Development and build sustainable skills. Participants were encouraged to critically evaluate the content, which helped Skillsoft Global Knowledge test and refine the training programme.
