The European e-Competence Framework (e-CF) is an IT professional standard that classifies forty competences for ICT professionals and establishes a common language for competences, skills and proficiency levels across Europe.
ESSA used e-CF to identify fourteen e-Competences that are relevant to software roles. The results of the 2021 Needs Analysis research helped define which of those competences are central to software roles and which have limited relevance.
e-CF is also tied to the European Qualification Framework (EQF) to define the level of qualification of the competences and the standardised European ICT profiles developed by experts and stakeholders under the umbrella of the CEN Workshop on ICT Skills.
